I recently had dinner at the home of some new friends and was surprised and pleased that they said grace before dinner. I haven’t experienced that in a long time. It reminded me how far we have drifted from old traditions that kept us in touch with God’s Divine Love and Guidance.
Prayer used to be a larger part of everyday life. We prayed at church services on Sundays, before meals, before going to sleep, and then again at the start of the day. After dinner, many families used to gather for a spiritual reading and conversation. Now, it seems that families members are running around in a thousand different directions or are plugged in to their electronic gadget by themselves. Our spiritual practice shouldn’t be just one more thing on our to-do list, but something that is woven throughout our everyday life.
