How To Have Vibrant Health And Vitality
Today we’re talking about how to have vibrant health and vitality.
During the holiday season, it’s especially important for us to take care of ourselves because there are additional demands on our time and so many opportunities to indulge in rich foods and sweet treats. It’s all good! It’s just a bit too much goodness sometimes. Isn’t it. ; )
If you are struggling, at all, with taking care of your health and well-being, I’m here to help.
In this week’s podcast I’m sharing some powerful practices you can use to live the healthy, vibrant life you desire.
It’s not about depriving yourself either, it’s a matter of moderation, of being conscious and intentional, and of loving yourself enough to make your well-being your highest priority.
You Are A Precious Gift
Think of self-care as a priceless gift you give yourself because you are a priceless gift to the world.
You have been sent here with a purpose and to shine your light.
Think of your life as a priceless gift that you have been given. Taking good care of it is the way you express your appreciation and make it last as long as possible.
Your happiness and wellbeing are gifts you give to others as well. When we are feeling good, and functioning at our best, we are more pleasant to be around. When we “put on our own oxygen mask first, we are more able to help others.”
Feeling our best, both physically and mentally, makes us more creative, productive and happy.
When you think of it this way, and keep these gift images in the forefront of your mind, you will be inspired to do the things that serve you and the world at the highest level.
We all experience times in our lives when we know how we “should” be living, but we aren’t taking the necessary actions. Here are some tips for getting unstuck.
Thou Shalt Not “Should” Thyself
First, we need to take the word “should” out of our vocabulary. Replace it with “positive affirmations that you can believe. For example: ” Rather than saying, “I should eat healthy food,” say ”I choose to eat healthy food,” or “I will eat healthy food” or, better yet, “I love to eat healthy food.”
Try changing the way you talk about it and feel the shift in your energy. How does “I should eat healthy” or “I have to eat healthy” feel vs “I love to eat healthy.”
For me, “should” feels so heavy, burdensome and exhausting. When I say “I love to be healthy,” or “I’m going to eat healthy today because I love myself and I love my life,” it feels so much better.
If you can’t get to “love” yet because you haven’t learned how to love healthy food yet, choose a different word that raises your energy. Perhaps something like “I’m learning” to love healthy food.
This practice of choosing thoughts that feel good to you, reminds you that you are in charge. Choosing your words intentionally like this is a powerful way to be conscious and to make choices that serve your vision of the life you would love.
Create Your Vision
Now that you are clear that you are worthy, and that you are supported by Your Creator and that you have the power to create vibrant health and vitality; create a vision statement for what health and vitality would look like.
How would you be feeling. How would you be living, eating, exercising. What would your daily routines be? Be sure you love what you choose. There are many ways to achieve the result. Allow yourself to choose things you love. You don’t have to settle for boring or effortful. Be sure your vision statement lights you up when you read it.
Then, at the beginning of every day, read your vision statement and visualize yourself living it.
Then, during the day, step into living that vision. Be the person you imagined and do the fun things you chose.
Consult Your Higher Self
And here’s a journaling practice you can use to get answers to questions if you feel stuck.
Find a comfortable quiet place to sit where you won’t be interrupted for a few minutes.
Grab a pen and your journal or a notebook.
Then close your eyes, take a few relaxing breaths and connect with Your Higher Power as you understand it. (I do this by allowing my awareness to sink into my solar plexus and I generate feelings of warmth and gratitude.)
As soon as you feel connected, open your eyes and write down your question. Such as “Why am I not taking care of myself?” or “What do I need to know?”
Journaling
Start writing down the answers that come to your mind. Don’t think too much, just write down what comes up. It’s like recording a stream of consciousness.
At some point you will notice that you are having a conversation with a wise and loving presence and the answers will feel right. I won’t sound different from your voice, it won’t be a booming voice like God speaking to Moses in the movies. It is a quiet, loving, wise voice, like yours, but more peaceful and assured. You may be amazed at the answers you get.
If an answer doesn’t come to you, that’s OK. It will come to you sometime during the day. Just be watching for it. It may appear in a conversation you have with someone, a sign that catches your attention, or a thought that comes to you. There are many possibilities. Just be open to receiving. You will know it when you hear it.
“Do Less and Rest”
Recently, I was feeling tired and low energy and was overeating. The answer that came to me was that I was not getting enough rest.
I know for a fact that being tired causes urges to overeat. Also, I have observed that I’m not as productive when working. I’ve learned that if I take a nap and come back to my work later, it takes much less time than if I keep pushing myself and don’t take a nap. And the quality of the work is better.
Lately, I’ve been trying to do too many things that require making decisions and that can be really exhausting. The solution is to budget my time to include fewer tasks, choose the highest priority tasks each day and be sure I get 8 hours of sleep. I will also choose to stay focused on the task at hand rather than getting distracted by thinking about other things at the same time.
